It starts at the Lake Skannatati parking lot and goes around the lake. If you’re like us you’ll want to bring a fishing rod because the trail takes you to some good fishing spots. When you get to the trailhead you can go right to the Red Cross Trail (Red Blaze) or left to the Long Path (Aqua Blaze). Lake Skannatati and Island Pond Loop is a 8.4 mile lightly trafficked loop trail located near Harriman, New York that features beautiful wild flowers and is rated as moderate. The trail is primarily used for hiking, walking, trail running, and nature trips and is best used from March until December.

Lake Skannatati is quite scenic and attracts lots of visitors throughout the seasons. This section starts at the fishing access parking lot off of Seven Lakes Drive at Lake Skannatati, about 0.75 mile north of Kanawauke Circle. From the Palisades Interstate Parkway, take Exit 15, go west on Gate Hill Road and Rockland County Route 106 to Kanawauke Circle, and then go north for 0.75 mile on Seven Lakes Drive. Proceed north on N.J. Route 17 to the New York State Thruway (I-87) north and take the first exit, Exit 15A (Sloatsburg). Turn left at the bottom of the ramp onto N.Y. Route 17 north, and continue through the Village of Sloatsburg. Just past the village, turn right at the traffic light, following the sign for Seven Lakes Drive/Harriman State Park. Hike Overview: This short loop hike follows both marked trails and an unblazed woods road around Lake Askoti, with a short bushwack to a viewpoint from Pine Swamp Mountain.
